Give the child

As a result of the doctor’s error while carrying out the IVF procedure this woman conceived somebody else’s child. And she was faced with a hard choice - to give him to his own parents or to keep to herself.

17 months earlier a couple Carolyn and Shawn Savage had to perform a shocking for them doing - to refuse from a new born baby. And this is after their applying for help to an upmarket IVF clinic.

Any person, having lost a child, can understand what feelings this couple experiences today. However, their tragedy is not connected with the boy’s death; they simply had to give him to some other people as Logan wasn’t their child. No matter how strange it can sound, Carolyn gave birth to the baby as a result of a serious doctor’s error at the clinic, where the fertilized eggs had been mixed up. As a matter of fact, another couple were the real parents of the boy so that Carolyn was bearing under her heart somebody else’s baby for nine months, having become a surrogate mother without her own desire.

Carolyn and Shawn gave birth to two children at the beginning of their marriage. In 2008 they became parents of the third child – a girl was born with the help of IVF. When Carolyn turned 40, she decided to experience the happiness of motherhood for the fourth time. And when the procedure ended successfully and the woman started having familiar nausea in the morning, the couple was urgently asked to the clinic. There they were informed about the doctor’s error – Carolyn had been transferred somebody else’s fertilized egg as another patient had the same maiden name.

The couple were faced the most difficult moral dilemma. Carolyn could have had an abortion or left the child to herself, depriving by this his genetic parents of the possibility to get their baby. But she could become a sort of unmeant surrogate mother and to give the child to his real parents after the delivery.

And the woman, in the long run, chose the last variant. She saw Logan only twice after the delivery but his real parents still continue thanking Carolyn in their letters, phone calls and telegrams.
