Surrogacy in Europe
In Belgium, Greece, Spain, Finland surrogate motherhood is not regulated by legislation but in fact takes place.
For the citizens of France surrogate motherhood is out of law as contradicting adoption legislation. It is not also allowed in other countries, where Catholic Church is traditionally strong.
In Germany any attempt to fulfill artificial insemination or implant a human embryo to a woman (surrogate mother), who is ready to refuse from her child after his birth, is considered to be a crime. It is criminal here to be both a doctor, carrying out the procedure, and actually a surrogate mother. The intended parents are free from the responsibility.
